Support to civil society is one of the key priorities of the EEA Financial Mechanism 2009-2014, funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway as stated in the Memorandum of Understanding with Romania on the implementation of the EEA Financial Mechanism 2009 – 2014.

The overall objective of the NGO Fund in Romania is “Strengthened civil society development and enhanced contribution to social justice, democracy and sustainable development”. The Program will contribute to the overall objectives of the EEA Financial Mechanism to reduce economic and social disparities in the European Economic Area and to strengthen bilateral relations between Romania and the donor states Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
The Fund Operator in Romania is Civil Society Development Foundation together with its partners the Romanian Environmental Partnership Foundation and the Resource Center for Roma Communities.

The overall objective of Component Involvement is to encourage the active citizenship and the participation in the community life, to ensure compliance and enforcement of fundamental democratic values.

The specific objective of subcomponent 1.2 – Volunteering is to support the initiatives that make an important contribution in community by offering people of all ages and from all social groups the opportunity to get involved in voluntary work.
